Join us on September 15th to hear from Oliver Bulleid, Executive Director of London Community Land Trust (CLT), as he shares his journey from practicing architect to taking on the client and developer role in community-led housing.

Oliver joined London CLT in 2021 having previously run his own practice as well as with two self-build projects. He made this transition after realising that successfully delivering large-scale housing requires a broader skillset, especially an understanding of the financial side of development.

He will explain how London CLT's not-for-profit model—which provides 100% home ownership linked to local average incomes—demonstrates the difficulty of operating with a tiny margin within a "broken system." Its first development, Citizens House, designed by Archio, was shortlisted for the Neave Brown Award, won Regional and National RIBA Awards in 2025, and London CLT awarded RIBA Client of the Year.

While recognising that design is essential, Oliver argues that architects need skills far beyond design to have a real impact on the housing crisis.

He will explore the importance of mastering viability calculations and building strong political relationships with council officials, councillors, and MPs to secure public land and opportunities.

Amanda Baillieu and Gus Zogolovitch set up Developer Collective in 2018 to teach professionals how to become design-led property developers and give them the contacts and resources to deliver their projects.

Their book How to be an Architect Developer was published in September '23. The Developer Collective Club was launched in2026.
